Can't find location of sump pump 1992 Ericson 34...???

I used to have an Ericson 1987 38-200. So I feel a little dumb but can't seem to find access to the shower sump of my friends newly acquired 1992 Ericson 34. The manual says forward the head but there is no pump located in the pan of the shower. No hatch I can find. The drain hole seems like a dead end. The sole seems like not original, but a faux material on top. Was the hatch for sump pump covered over? The pan fills but doesn't drain. Maybe the sump itself is shot, but can't find where located?

There is a hatch in the cabin sole just aft of the galley corner. It is also access to the aft-most keel bolt.

That is great photo to have. The hatch doesn't seem to expose the pump which I am assuming is the red circle. I need to look again., Thank you Tom!

Tom, I thought to follow up with you for the heck of it. The hatch in question seems to sit port of the structural member that in between the bilge and sump pump. The drain hole in the shower catch seems to have a plug. There is not switch like for the bilge pump where you can have it set to automatic or toggle for manual. I recall having one on my E 38. The manual states there being one, but I can't find. My guess is that the sump was decommissioned for some reason. However, in seeing a picture of a sole of another 34 the hatch is located exactly over where it should be if i follow the photo you send me. The flooring material is laminated and doesn't seem original, nor is the brass trim something Ericson or PS would do to my knowledge. Another curiosity is the delamination in the shower catch and the about of spider cracks. Doesn't seem to learn as I let some water sit over night. Current owner asked previous owner about location of sump but claimed ignorance and that doesn't sit right. Knowing the owner as I do and their desire to cruise next year the shower will be operational, but he will get the bug to return sole to original. Just really curious of the back story. The good news is she has a new owner happy to get things fixed up right. Thanks again Tom. It was very helpful! Matt

The Auto-off-manual switch is on the forward bulkhead over the sink counter. It is tied into the pressure water breaker.

Pacific Seacraft apparently ditched the shower sump pump, with float switch, under the sole; to above the toilet bowl and accessed from cockpit locker next to holding tank behind head. Here is photo of original and what we plan top replace it. I get the logic of the relocation. Makes sense. It makes all kinds of noise and has poor suction so time to replace. Because the manual that came with boat said same type of switch that is at the nav station for the bilge pump, is also in the head for shower sump I was a bit confused. I kind of liked having two bilge pumps in my '87 E38-200. Loved my separate shower, but this 1992 34 is still really nice and an electric toilet is luxurious. End of story. Sump pump found. Thanks again Tom!

In this 1992 E34 version they did away with a submersible sump pump for shower. Instead, the drain line runs aft to cockpit locker and up the back wall of the head to the electric bilge pump mounted next to holding tank. The water pressure needs to be on to run, which it is if using the shower.

While our boat does not have a physically-separated "shower sump", your plumbing/wiring description fits it almost as well. All except for the power for our second "shower" pump, which comes from the main DC panel. The strum box is a bit nearer to the aft head area, compared to the other "bilge" pump intake.
Net result is welcome redundancy in dewatering. Does your '92 model also have the manual dewatering pump adjacent to the helm?

If you add the backup method of a "frightened man with a bucket" we have a number of good ways to remove water..... and then, there's also the turkey baster I get kidded about... :)
