    E32-2 restoration thread

I have now completed the quarter berth: The ceiling install was difficult to create all of its angles and mounting. Few will ever see it. Much of the wood is coming along nicely, pardon the dust: There will be some evidence of staple holes, and a few dings and deep scratches here and there...

Slow leak aft [Dripless Shaft Seal]

If you remove the wooden divider inside the cockpit seat locker, then remove the fuel tank, there is plenty of room to work. On my boat, I expanded the tiny access panel in the quarter berth wall to nearly the size of the quarter berth itself to help with access too. Ive spent way too much time...

    E32-2 restoration thread

Progress continues but is slow going, my job has became extremely demanding as of late. I have completed the main cabin ceiling: Not perfect, but good enough for amateur hour. I have began to tackle all the wood refinishing. This boat, a 78', has the wood upgrade interior, which is neat...

    E32-2 restoration thread

Hello again, I have still been working on the old tub as time and weather allows, I have made some progress: Firstly, I have been moved outside. The nice gentleman that sold me the boat and let me work on it in his shop for minimal rent was ready to have his space back, which is understandable...

    1978 E32 portlight resealing

Hello I am getting ready to reinstall my rebuilt aluminum framed glass portlights on a 78 E32, and I was hoping to get some guidance. I tried to use a bead of life caulk on the frame, But I noticed that with just the sealant, the inner trim piece does not have enough clamping force on the...

    E32-2 restoration thread

Hello again, The work continues, I am currently prepping the boat for the move outside of the shop. This week I have finished up the hatches. I had originally planned to update to modern units. The cost was high, but the deal breaker was the fact that I would have to chop off both hatch areas...

Rebuilding wood/ acrylic hatches. Sealant choice?

I have made new wooden frames for my 32-2 hatches, and have had new acrylic cut at a local supplier. When i remake the hatches, what do I use as a sealant between the wood frame and acrylic top? Lifecaulk? butyl tape? 5200? The old hatches were so deteriorated I could not make out what was used.

I found the new belt on ebay, there are two different belt options depending on tooth count. $26

    E32-2 restoration thread

July update: Time to tackle whats left of the electrical system. The battery tray is thin and very weak. I could not easily locate a similar part so I glassed it back to full strength: I also added a pair of battery holders to the bottom with buckles to keep them snug. All of the wiring is...

    E32-2 restoration thread

Built a new exhaust system. The old one did not have a drop or a water trap in it at all, it was just horizontal, which explains the rust damage to the valves and seats. I added a drop leg to the new one: I was told not to use galvanized for the hot section due to hazardous fumes. The hot...

    E32-2 restoration thread

I have the paper that shows the original rudder superimposed over the new design. Have a look and see what you make of it. The leading edge has been reduced and the aft edge extended. Extended overall length, and the tip has been given a more forward sweep. I didn't weigh either rudder, but this...

    E32-2 restoration thread

Here is a fun one: on the bottom of the sewage tank is written "Bill Whites lunch bucket" . Mr White wasn't popular at the Ericson factory apparently. :D

    E32-2 restoration thread

Another issue I ran into with the 32-2 is that the more components I put in, the less room there is to access them for service. once the engine, exhaust, locker panels and fuel tank are installed, this tiny panel is the only access to the rear of the engine, the prop shaft packing, and most of...

    E32-2 restoration thread

I have finally corrected the absolute mess I made of the rudder installation. The lower bushing was heavily worn and loose, an inch of rudder tip play in all directions. There was no grease fitting installed in the log at all. At first I tried to inject a graphite impregnated epoxy mixture into...
