    Re-stepping mast, tensioning, rigging

I have nothing of value to add to this (sorry) but I will be watching the topic closely, and I'm very glad you asked it.

    Transmission linkage

Non sequitur but I just recently read your Philosophy of Sailing and really enjoyed it, both for the sailing and philosophical musings. Very good book.

    Transmission linkage

That's it exactly! Thanks much for the reply. It appears we've lost that clamp fitting, so I'll just need to hit the hardware store and buy one that'll fit? So much better than what we feared! BTW, I've gotta say that I'm really impressed by this Atomic 4. It reminds me of working on my old...

    Transmission linkage

We had some excitement on our '70 E-39 while moving her to a new slip, and I've been trying to figure out what's what. Power is an Atomic 4. It turns out the problem is that the transmission linkage cable slipped out of the sheath near engine so it couldn't properly engage the clutch for...

    New Ericson owner here

The new owner is my sister's fiancé, who got the boat from his grandfather. He doesn't have much experience and knows I was a live-aboard and have sailed a fair amount so he asked me to help him out. Good guy, we get along. Plus who doesn't want to sail? So I'm all in.

    Rebuild or Repower?

Thanks all for the input. Looks like we’ve got to really consider the options before doing something stupid. (I like to really think about it, and then do something stupid). I’ll let you know which way he decides to go.

    Rebuild or Repower?

The little passage we had to make the other day turned into quite an adventure. We got caught in a gale, managed to bring her to dock in a blinding rain, left again for our home slip and the engine blew. We had to get towed. Head gasket, rings, we're really not sure yet. It's a 50 year old...

Harken Furling but a genoa with hanks?!

Wow, Mark, that's quite a visual! I suspect we're in more or less the same situation. Something like 13 sails up in Mich but I wonder how many of them are worth anything. Sure would like to find the correct genoa or jib, though. And I've gotta say that foredeck, above, is what I'd like to...

Best prop for an Ericson 39?

Thanks for all the input gang. We had quite an adventure yesterday (I'll tell about it elsewhere) and I got to see just how bad the two blade folding prop on this boat really is for reverse. Man, it was almost non-existent! Bringing her into dock at one point, "parallel parking" between two...

Harken Furling but a genoa with hanks?!

That's a very interesting idea Slick, and could be on the money. There are a LOT of lines on this boat I'm not sure of. At least one of them is a wire cable that could easily be a removable inner forestay. I'll definitely have to look into that more closely, and I'll let y'all know what I...

    New Ericson owner here

I'm new to Ericson's and I'm not the owner, but the one I'll be sailing / motoring tomorrow sure impresses me. The previous owner had her in the Great Lakes. We've got a lot to do to really get her right I think, but this boat really seems like a blue water sailer!

Harken Furling but a genoa with hanks?!

That sure seems right to me. I went on Harken's website to see if I was out of my mind and was happy to see that at least my memory was correct! (Of all things I've lost in the course of my life I think I miss my mind the most). Your assessment makes perfect sense. We just got one of the...

    New Ericson owner here

I'm a newbie here myself Stephen, but congrats and welcome. The Ericson I'm attached to is pleasantly surprising me every day so far. Seems like a great group here in the forum, too.

Harken Furling but a genoa with hanks?!

Hey there gang. First I wanna say you've been so helpful and I'm really glad I found this forum. Hopefully I'll be able to add something to the conversation eventually. For now I've got another question (of course). Black Diamond, an Ericson 39, is in the water. We spent most of the day...

Best prop for an Ericson 39?

I just checked out their site and the Max Prop Classic has been retired as of 2019. It looks like the Max-prop Easy is the successor. Still looks good, though. Do you think it'll do as well as the earlier one?
