    Exploring Random Hazards

Great story, Christian. On the topic of underwater destruction, it got me thinking about the difference in Keel types. Is it true that a full keel can be more impervious to impact or damage, versus a slimmer keel design, or even dagger board design? Retracting keels seem to be in fashion...

    Exploring Random Hazards

Haha that’s fantastic! I was sailing on Boston Harbor last night and we encountered a giant telephone pole sized log with nails sticking out of it. It was definitely startling to encounter something like that in such a busy area, but like you guys suggested, it happens! Fortunately, I...

Crack forward of the anchor locker

The model is an E38, the overall condition is okay... It has several other areas of concern, many of which are cosmetic. Owner claims that she's sea-worthy. Haven't given her a proper survey yet - that would happen next if I felt it was worth doing. All of the rigging looks solid. The engine's...

Crack forward of the anchor locker

Very interesting assessment, fellas. Unfortunately, this is a broker-less boat. It is being sold directly from the owner via a private listing. This this is enough of a reason to walk away from the boat offering? I browsed through a few threads on this forum and one gentleman posted about his...

Crack forward of the anchor locker

These theories are really helping me get a sense of potential problems this vessel may have faced. Much appreciated! I noticed another potential clue on this image of the underside of the bow. Don’t think that’s a line of water dripping from the starboard edge. Thoughts?

Might as well post a pic of the anchor locker too...

Crack forward of the anchor locker

Hi Forum, I recently took a look at a local ericson and discovered a large crack on the deck, just aft of the anchor mount and forward of the anchor locker. Not sure if it’s a stress crack or something caused by a collision. Would love your insight if you’ve seen anything like this...

    Exploring Random Hazards

Taboo because I know it can be difficult to admit 'failure', to some degree. But that's operating on the assumption that, "to crash your boat is to fail as a captain/helmsman". Sounds like what you are suggesting is that boat damage is just a part of boat ownership and boat life. We take the...

    Exploring Random Hazards

**Warning, this post may be a bit intense, but important no less. I understand if you would rather not share** After reading Keith Parcells post yesterday, it got me thinking about other potential hazards that exist out, in the blue water. More specifically, it got me thinking about truly...

    1970 Ericson 32 in Ontario - $15,000

    Thanks for fixing that, Loren.

    1970 Ericson 32 in Ontario - $15,000

Came across the ad in Good Old Boat magazine this morning. Thought I’d share it with you guys: No idea why it’s posting sideways. It’s in portrait mode on my PC...

    Ericson 36 for sale

Nice find! Looks beautiful. Kinda interested.

    Is a <$18,000 Ericson 38 a Financial Trap?

We're probably going to stay pretty local for our purchase. I agree, I don't think it's practical to move a 38 from one coast to another.

    Is a <$18,000 Ericson 38 a Financial Trap?

If the price was right, I would consider a west coast boat. Is it even possible to transport a 38 foot sailboat over land from say California to Boston? I would imagine it would cost many thousands!
