    Inboard on 1976 30' Ericson

All good advice from Emerald. One of the most common issues with the Atomics is introducing salt water into the engine from overcranking. If you have water in the oil it should be readily apparent on the dipstick. The answers to the questions above might provide some insight into what may be...

    Inboard on 1976 30' Ericson

It is pretty difficult to say until you start tearing into the engine. I would look at it this way....if there is something seriously wrong with the engine it should be pulled out of the boat even if you go the outboard route. So why not pull the motor and try and figure out what happened? My...

    Inboard on 1976 30' Ericson

I would go with a rebuild of the Atomic Four if faced with the same dilemna. In general sticking with the inboard will be the best option both from a performance and resale standpoint. If you haven't done so already I would suggest visiting the Moyer Marine website for advice on the A4. If my...

    Rope Clutch Base

Just my opinion .... but i would just go ahead and do it right the first time, no point in visiting the same issue twice. I would pick up some teak and cut the block, fill the old holes with epoxy and redrill as necessary. I always regret half-ass repairs on the boat without exception. One...

    Topping Lift

I have a short piece of cable with a snap shackle as Seth mentions above and it works just fine for my purposes...and it will be your cheapest solution.

    Genoa Track Car for E27

I took a look around the web and came up with pridemarine.com a Canadian based web retailer. I know nothing about them but it looks like they carry Garhauer so I will likely give them a shot. With the Canadian dolllar being below .80 US the American Ericson owners might save some bucks going...

    Genoa Track Car for E27

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going with the Garhauer as suggested. If anyone has a suggestion for a supplier in Canada for Garhauer that would be great. I see Harken, Lewmar and Schaeffer up in Vancouver often, but I don't think I have seen Garhauer in my travels.

    Genoa Track Car for E27

Hello, Can anyone recommend a good genoa lead block for my E27. Also does anyone know offhand the width of the track on the 27. I noticed the old schaeffer block was on the verge of letting go so I removed it last weekend but forgot to measure the track for the replacement. I am thinking...

    Attaching Harken mastbase block

The mast is deck stepped. I have seen the plates from Garhauer but I would have to lift the mast to put the plate on and after a major rewire/rerig of the mast last year i just don't have that kind of ambition. The last owner drilled a 3/4 inch hole at the base of the mast to run a vhf...

    Attaching Harken mastbase block

Can someone tell me the best procedure for installing a harken mastbase block to my E27. I am routing the main halyard to the cockpit and require the block to complete the project. The part number is 1986 and can be found on the link to West Marine site below. I assume the proper procedure is...

Looking at a 35-II, lots of maintenance questions.

I will take a stab at a few of your questions. I have an E27 so went with the more general questions. * The hatches seem to be in functional condition. They appear to be "home made" (by Ericson, but not commericial hatches). Do they respond well to a little TLC, or even a complete...

Mounting heavy dinghy outboard on E27 rail

Hi John, You are no doubt right on the money...but the need for speed has taken me. Funny how its a thrill to sail at 6 knots but I still want more power for the dink. In any case i have already purchased the motor so will have to make do for now. I am thinking I will mount a Fulton or...

Mounting heavy dinghy outboard on E27 rail

Thanks for the reply Brian....that thought had occurred to me as well, but then there are the usual concerns with asthetics etc etc. I suppose a big outboard is a big outboard regardless of whether its on the rail or on a transom bracket. If I do go with the transom bracket it would make sense...

Mounting heavy dinghy outboard on E27 rail

Hello All, Any opinions as to whether my E27 stern rail will be up to the task. I have already purchased a Mercury 9.9 four stroke for my new Walker Bay inflatable. I wanted a motor that would plane two....so this was my best option. Unfortunately the thing weighs 85 pounds (one of the...

How bad is it? (Part 1: Shaft Coupling)

I just went through this same ordeal on my E27. I paid the guys in the yard one day labor to give it a try and it was a total loss (it took me 3 evenings after work but got it off myself). My advice is do all the work yourself. If you can get a sawzall at the coupling then cut a triangle inside...
