Faulty (Factory) Companionway Steps on my '85 E28!!!!!!

I had my 30+ stairs collapse under me, the stringer split in half near where it "mounts" to the companionway.

Battery Health--hydrometer, plus potential starter motor isssues

and all those can be very easily isolated with a voltage drop test which any cheap amazon voltmeter is more than capable of doing. for that matter, due to life and needing a replacement voltmeter, I bought a model that had an inductive ammeter as well, very useful for troubleshooting. jmho and...

    E30+ INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEMS

Short of doing tests and gathering empirical data, you are employing what we call in the mechanic business as the "shotgun" strategy. Literally, shoot a shotgun and replace everything that gets hit with a BB pellet. Don't get me wrong, you got to do what you got to do when you're in a pinch...

Is this the Merriman brand steering?

Mucho gracias, might as well replace that along with everything else haha

Is this the Merriman brand steering?

Ok, few things here. As some may remember I'm usually trying to plan work activities while on the road based on faulty memory and or bad pictures It would appear to be the Yacht Specialties based on the YS on the nut and stamped in various places on the pedestal. I did pop out the old idler...

Can I remove the blower and hoses?

FWIW I have removed mine on my diesel powered rig. Plan on using a passive system, so the hoses will go back. Considering using solar powered vent.

Is this the Merriman brand steering?

Yup! I got just about everything downloaded from the resources, it "looked" most like the Merriman to me I figured the machinist was the route I was going to need to take but also figured I should ask first.

Cockpit floor - I'm assuming this ISN'T factory...

Well to be fair I do have the exhaust off doing the alternator bracket upgrade at the time of the picture !

Cockpit floor - I'm assuming this ISN'T factory...

Yes, port engine bay - engine is currently in place. The boxes I drew were extra generous, but I will probably have to shuffle things just a bit. The most likely thing to be accessed is the fuse box, which is readily accessible. (certainly way more so than the A/C panel that was previously...

Cockpit floor - I'm assuming this ISN'T factory...

Probably not necessary at all for this application and might not make it to V2.0 but for the glow plug example just so I can run a lower amperage through the switch and therefore keeping higher dollar higher amperage wiring runs shorter. Using smaller wire for longer runs arguably reduces fire...

Cockpit floor - I'm assuming this ISN'T factory...

ah, I was focused on the liquid and not the invisible fluid, makes sense to me.

After much consideration, I went the other direction. I removed the waste basket. Probably will put a removable half waste basket in place. First draft/Rough layout of new design, concentrating on accessibility for maintenance - 1/4 berth wall will be utilized for hose, wire and cable...
