Sailing since I was 8. My Dad was a 24 year Submariner who taught me to sail, dead reckon navigate, and the rules of the road. At age 9 he and I built my first sailboat (Tinker II cost $100) that included a used 13' lapstrake wooden hull ($30), a broken wooden mast for a 19 footer ($5) with a metal swing set mast step (free), 2X4 boom, and an aluminum centerboard and rudder (fabricated on the base..perks of being an officer I guess). Sailed her for 9 years.
While working at Arco as a side gig in 1979 started a sailboat shop in Dallas with a partner (La Vida Starships) selling and servicing boats. 40 years later, La Vida is still going strong (www.lavidastarships.com). I divested in 1995.
