In a similar vein, I recall wishing I had gotten a much larger diameter post, and centered the post on the base plate. The boat builders insisted the diameter they gave me was sufficient, and I have no reason to doubt them, but it's more just a "warm fuzzy feeling" that comes with overbuilt and...
The link works now for any future owners who want to see how I did it. Unfortunately I don't own the boat anymore, as I've moved on to other adventures, but goddamn I miss it.

The day has sadly arrived where I am selling my Ericson 35-2, and I've done a lot of maintenance myself. Can the next owner sue my ass back to the stone age if anything fails? Is this liability limited if I simply put "as-is" on the bill of sale? Anyone have any experience with this?
Holy thread revival. I actually finished this project two years ago, but I wrote up a blog post about how I did it. I'm putting it here in case other people run into the same issue and want a little guidance.
Here's the entry...
Yeah, this is purely for "science" (as in I got bored while I'm landlocked and found a way to spend time towards my boat).
I think I might try and figure out it's location by putting the sensor near where I think and measure some stuff when I turn and... oh boy, this is getting real into the weeds.
Kind of a weird question. I have a '78 Ericson 35 MKII, and I'm dinking around with making my own instruments. One of the things I have figured out is how to remove induced wind from the anemometer measurement (on a no wind day at anchor, if a wave moves under a boat, the mast will rock back and...
Reviving an old thread because I only found dead ends... I don't mind ponying up for some 35-2 polars. Anybody have any idea who I could throw my money at?
Guy, you are awesome. Why can't everything be in as plain English as you put it? That's awesome. I'll give that a go.
The reason why it's a bit out of whack is because when I had the rig replaced, I also removed a rotten and bent compression post, and replaced it with a welded Aluminum one...
I have a Furlex Type B Mk II installed on my Ericson 35 MKII. I recently replaced all the rigging (well... six months ago...) and realized that I have to adjust the forestay tension... But how do you do that with a roller furler installed? Here are two pictures (ignore the poorly wrapped furling...
You're article has been very helpful, seriously--thanks for writing it.
As far as I know, I'm not sure what the steel plate is for.
We've narrowed down the cause of the crack to be the jib halyard, which ran to a block attached to the deck on the left side of the mast. Since I have a furler...
Here is the picture album (14 total): http://imgur.com/a/Rcoi6
I took the mast off and have it in the yard getting new rigging while I work on this "little" project. I'm following this guide (http://home.comcast.net/%7Eindependence31/core/looksbad.html), but I used this forum and the documents...
Ah yeah I wasn't very descriptive in my first post...
The previous owner redid the chainplates, but I believe he incorrectly adjusted the rigging. It's hard to see in the picture, but the compression post is bulging slightly to the right... Which we believe caused the slight ripping On the...
Hey all, here's the damage: http://imgur.com/a/5cam0
Anyway, I'm going to get the mast off, and replace the compression plate and post, and cut out the rotted wood (it's bulging underneath). What tools will I need? I have a few friends in the marine industry who can provide guidance, but I'd...
