Did this job last year on our 1970 Ericson 41. Chainplates were very corroded and well past replacement time but had not failed. Spent a year trying to decided how I wanted to replace. Contemplated adding knees to mount chainplates or externally mounting them to the hull. In the end decided to...
I would really like to replace the stainless steel fuel tank on the E41 not leaking yet but one of the water tanks that look like the same construction was badly corroded and leaking. Who did you have fabricate your tank?
My Son and Daughter raced in the youth PNW youth circuit 17 years ago in Opti's. As a parent it was great time and great memories.
We would get out on the keel boat for Tuesday night races and get one race and start in, they would get out for a practice coach night and get a dozen starts in...
Welcome to the E41 club. Great boats but after 50+ years most need lots of TLC. We are in our second year of a major refit, we had it stripped down to a bare hull and are slowly putting it back together. If I can help with advice let me know.
The Cruising World article about the Ericson 41 talks about how bad the V drive is and recommended if repowering considering turning the engine around and doing a modern strut and shaft. I have only spent a few hours running the boat before we pulled it for the refit but found it was impossible...
We replaced our 3 burner Force 10 stove. Everything works but it probably at least 20 years old. I hate to send it for scrap metal. If someone can use it. In the Portland OR area.

If you use gelcoat without wax you can just roll, spray or brush another coat without sanding and then spray PVA over it when its to the thickness you need. Use the Preval sprayers...
Just finished Taken By The Wind by Mike Jacker. This was a great recommendation. Tried to stretch it out as long as I could didn't want to get to the end.
Thanks for the comments, I think i will just leave both opening forward for now but I am planning on adding a rigid vang so I may reverse the main hatch at that time.
Boat is on the hard for the second year of its rebuild and I am trying to seal up the deck for the rainy season. I have a forward hatch and main hatch aft of the mast, both are mounted so they open forward with the hinge aft. What are the arguments for reversing them or leaving them?
