    Reefing up close

Thanks, we’ll try this, so we can reef easily in conditions. I assume you want to plan the length carefully, so the other cringles, especially at the clew, line up.

    Reefing up close

Lots of info on this forum, and vids on YT, about Reefing. But mostly about when to reef, slab vs roller, single line vs double, etc. My Q is more basic. My ‘84 E30+ has a standard rig and North Sails main, slug foot, two reefs. The luff cringles are difficult to stretch onto the Rams...

    Rebedding companionway slider hood

A self-tapping sheet metal screw or a wood screw with the point cut off will have more thread to grip the epoxy than a machine screw. I’ve done this in a mahogany core fiberglass kayak, good hold without a nut

    Rebedding companionway slider hood

Thank you both again for the additional detail. I was wrong, the upper batten (at the headliner) is not plugged—but all others are, so I’ll be referring to this in the future!

    Rebedding companionway slider hood

Wow, both super helpful. Glad to learn about the sea hood (and I updated my signature info.) bigd14, when you say fastener/wood screws, are you referring to the screws around the sea hood? They go into, but should not penetrate through, the cabin top? Also, can you tell me how to do these...

    Rebedding companionway slider hood

No luck searching online for a how-to. 1984 E30+. Moisture readings from the survey when we bought her a year ago indicated this was an area to watch, but we didn’t watch carefully enough. Can someone walk me thru? And will I be able to restore my interior veneer where it has cracked and buckled?

    Stanchion backing plates, technique?

I rebedded a gate (1 stanchion, on two legs) and ran into a problem. I filled the old holes with epoxy and redrilled them for the 1/4 inch bolts, using the stanchion feet as a guide, and dropping the bolts through one at a time. The feet take three and four bolts each. The problem is, the total...

    Sealing mast step plate

Thanks for these replies. The standpipe’s purpose is as bigd14 says. The questions are, why is it at a corner, did it use to be in the center, and why was it moved? I assume I can rebed/caulk the plate and screws (possibly upgrading to beefier hex head lag screws) at the 4 corners without too...

    Sealing mast step plate

Noob owners of ‘84 e30+, getting ready to step mast for the first time. Previous owner did not routinely unstepped for winter storage. We wanted to solve an occasional leak through the mast above the bulkhead. The problem may have been as simple as lacking a drip loop before the wires enter the...

    Running cables through mast

The channel through the plate is almost .75” ID, and the BNC’s OD is .57“, so it should fit through—yay! But is it electronically compatible? Why do websites say to use a bulky PL259 connector?

    Running cables through mast

Noob owner of ‘84 e30+, getting ready to step mast for the first time. And pondering replacing the VHF coaxial cable in the mast and the boat. I was not present for the unstepping last fall, but it appears the coax coupling was cut off to allow the cable to be pulled through. Is there a way to...
