    San Diego wildfires

Got a reverse 911 warning notice from the Carlsbad Police Dept. asking all residents in my area to evacuate due the impending wildfires. Packed up what I could in a short time (including my Amazon parrot ROJO). Took an hour to travel 13 miles to my E29 CAPRICIOUS moored in the Oceanside...

    Wanted-- Bow pulpit for E-29

I'm looking for a bow pulpit for my 1971 E-29. The existing pulpit has been modified by the P.O. to support a folded tabernacle mast, and althought well built, doesn't follow the lines of the boat. Thanks, Ray Hughes. (rayjay3@sbcglobal.net):egrin:

    Stainless metal cleaning

:egrin: An easy way to clean rust or stains from standing rigging (or deck mounted hardware) is to use Davis FSR. Brush it on with an old toothbrush, let it work overnight, then hose the residue off. When the metal is dry, spray it with Lemon Pledge or a similar product, and polish...

Where to live in the Northwest

My folks have their 140 acre farm for sale, about 15 miles south of Olympia. There is an airstrip in the hayfields, 3 year-round creeks, views of Mt. Rainier, Adams, and St.Helens. Easy drive to the Olympia area marinas. Let me know if you might be interested. Thanks, Ray Hughes.

    Bow pulpit for E-29 wanted

:egrin: I'm looking for a bow pulpit for my 1971 E-29. The existing pulpit was modified by the P.O. to either brace the tabernacle mast when dropped, or to shorten to overall length of the boat for slip measurement reasons. Thanks, Ray Hughes.

    Cutlass strut corrosion

Cutlass strut replacement Removing the cutlass strut from my 1971 E-29 was easy. Four 1/2" nuts held the stainless bolts that secured the strut to the hull. (located aft of the battery tray in on the E-29) Did slice a finger pretty bad from a broken trouble light bulb left there in the muck...

    Cutlass strut corrosion

Recently had my 1971 E29 hauled for bottom paint. Cutlass bearing was worn, so decided to replace it. Removed the cutlass strut, and found that the stainless securing bolts were badly damaged by electrolysis. On removing the cutlass bearing, the bronze strut itself cracked. The yard where...

Original colors for '71 E-29 shear stripe

Hello, I'm refurbishing my 1971 E-29. The shear stripe (just below the rub-rail) was originally a yellow color, and has since been re-painted a dark brown. The paint needs to be stripped and re-done. I'd like to keep the boat as original as possible. Any input as to what the color options...

    Unwanted floatsam and jetsam

:esad: One-legged gulls, pelicans with six-pack plastic on their necks. floating trashbags in the harbor. I needed to do something to clean up our front yard. Joined the Surfrider Foundation, which is non-profit. They have 60 chapters nationwide, concerned with beach management, water...

    stupid!!!

Rubrail repair Vinylon is marketed as a bouy paint. It does fill in the cracks of old deteriorated rubrails after a few coats. It's water-like in consistancy, and works best when applied at low temperatures, as it dries very quickly and won't take an even brush flow. I detail boats as a...

    stupid!!!

Rubrail replacement I was going to replace the chalked/ cracked rubrail on my 1971 E29, but came across a more cost effective solution. A product called "Vinylon", made by a company called "Humboldt Treasures", and sold by Seattle Marine. After sanding, prepping, and taping the rubrail, 2...

    Bottom paint removal

I will soon be hauling my 1971 E-29 for new bottom paint. I would like to remove what is left of the existing bottom paint, apply a new barrier (primer) coat, then apply new anti-foul. The yard won't allow sanding or grinding. Any suggestions on products and procedures? Thanks, Ray Hughes...
