    fuel/engine woes

If you have Racor 500 filter for the primary, check the orientation of the insert - misalignment may cause the fuel flow cut-off. Also, did you notice black soot in the exhaust by any chance, particularly on high revs? Regards, Stan

    Older Aqua Signal 25

Great suggestion, will try that. As for the LED, the life is not that complex for me - that combo is just a steaming light/deck light unit, colors are not involved. So, looks like I probably shall take it down from the mast. There is a good chance that those old corroded pins are still...

    Older Aqua Signal 25

No luck - old unit Thanks, but it turns out Aqua Signal had changed to Byonet in 2011. Before that, it was that darn two-prong, AKA G4. And replacing the whole $80 unit just because of the outdated bulb is not gonna be approved by the Admiral. So, the question still stands :) Regards, Stan

    Tubular radar reflector flutter

Hello people, once again asking for a collective wisdom. I have two tubular Plastimo radar reflectors installed on inner shrouds between the first and second spreaders. They have been there for a while, with no apparent issues. Except yesterday, when the wind came with just right strength (a...

    Older Aqua Signal 25

Hi dear All, last morning I decided to go up the mast with a noble purpose to replace a fore-deck light bulb in the Aqua Signal 25 combo light of 2005-ish vintage. The steaming light works fine; the old deck bulb went MIA many years ago, as they reportedly do all the time. So far we had...

    Xantrex Truecharge location

Thanks Tom, the layout is slightly different, but the idea is good! Regards, Stan

    Ericson 32-3 Leak Management

On our 32-3, dorade box was leaking - probably due to clogged drains. Solved by removing the cowl and placing a solar vent in that hole. Also, plugged the dorade box drains. Never leaked since. Regards, Stan

    Unexpected Winter Projects

Hi Jim, I can only answer the last question - as I am by no means a glass work expert. It took less than one tube to re-bed two fixed ports on our 32-3. Regards, Stan

    Xantrex Truecharge location

Thanks Tom. Your setup looks great, but on our 32-3 that area is pretty far from the batteries, so wire run would be pretty long. I am also a bit concerned about potential water drips from the locker hatch. Still, if the spot under the sink does not work out, it is an option. I distinctly...

    Xantrex Truecharge location

Hi, dear all, after a long hiatus - life happens - I am back to boat upgrades projects. Some time ago (long time ago, I should say) someone - and I believe it was Loren - posted a picture of the charger placed under the sink... I looked through the archives, but it seems to be...

    When you start your engine.....

Hi Rick, Used to be the case before wiring replacement. Bad contacts were primary suspects, but we may never know now :). I'd check the voltage on the beeping instrument when it's on. If it's considerably lower than the one at the battery, you probably have a bad connection somewhere. If...

    Rigger recommendations?

Well, given that you want to pull the mast, I'd stick with boat yards. Svendsen always does good work for us - standing rigging, running rigging, lifelines... Regards, Stan

    E 32-3 Exhaust elbow/riser

I vaguely remember the conundrum with 2 inches... Will take a picture when I am on the boat next time. I found a reference to a fiberglass coupler somewhere on catalina34.org. The first snafu was getting the old elbow detached. I spent a year worth of profanities removing three rusty nuts...

    Is this an Ericson?

Looks like an older Hunter or Newport...
