In this 1992 E34 version they did away with a submersible sump pump for shower. Instead, the drain line runs aft to cockpit locker and up the back wall of the head to the electric bilge pump mounted next to holding tank. The water pressure needs to be on to run, which it is if using the shower.

Tom, I thought to follow up with you for the heck of it. The hatch in question seems to sit port of the structural member that in between the bilge and sump pump. The drain hole in the shower catch seems to have a plug. There is not switch like for the bilge pump where you can have it set to...

I will look again. The hatch you speak of doesn't have a sump pump and I also believe it is same as bilge water...?
