    Prop Strut replacement

What were they thinking? I guess no one ever expected to own an Ericson beyond the life of the strut. 19 hours (thanks David for the input) - OUCH there must be a lot of fiberglass work involved. ADD A ZINC TO YOUR STRUT NOW!! BTW, In a PM, Guy voted Bay Marine as well. I just don't know how...

    Prop Strut replacement

Prepurchase photo In replacing the engine we had a floating bond for some time. I bought a zinc guppy that went overboard, but the strut is (always) electrically isolated. The prepurchase photo (Nov 2007) is shown below. Minkowitz noted some RED and recommended the zinc - which we...

    Prop Strut replacement

My partner used my nifty underwater camera to take a nasty shot of our prop strut. What do you think? Is my only replacement option the outfit in WA? Any guess on boat yard hours for this job? Thanks, Skip

    Yanmar 2YM15 Going IN!

Chalk it up to life's experience Our attitude has been we can do it. Why not - it isn't rocket science, but we do have some engineering and mechanical backgrounds to pull from. Funny - the picture of the gang pushing the engine down the dock. We got some strange looks from a couple of...

    Yanmar 2YM15 Going IN!

Use the boom!@? Hey Greg, After giving it many sleepless hours of engineering considerations we decided to use the boom. The engine isn't too heavy, < 250lbs and for us pulling probably <200lbs since we had torn all the accessories off. A couple of general recommendations. One, always have a...

    Yanmar 2YM15 Going IN!

Thanks for joining! Loren, I'm finding out the oil addititve. As I recall it is something like 1TSP per 100 Gallons or something. Blue Jacket is an old truck driver turned tug boat live aboard. Alex, The actual prep and removal of the engine was like 2 days prep and 1 day haul. Then we...

    Yanmar 2YM15 Going IN!

Talking to myself Here are some photos to spice it up. The bottom of the 2YM15. Line is only a safety..... 1. I have bought Delo400 SAE 30; Awaiting Yanmar dealer approval. 2. The Fram does fit although the outter diameter is larger. Yanmar cross references the 2GM20 to the new narrower...

    see the damage...!

Ahh, a lovely steering project.... Ralph, Search Wobbly E32-2 and you will find my trilogy of wobbly rudder repair. We were out of the water and had to do a bunch of shimming and reworking. A lack of a proper rudder stop was our major contributor to all the wallowing out, deck cracking etc...

    Yanmar 2GM20 parts

Parting out a 2GM20 engine. Head and Block were both Magged and are clean, no cracks etc. Transmission, starter, alternator and on and on and on. If you need ANY parts for your 2GM20 send me a list and make me an offer. I didn't rebuild due to gears, cam and injection fuel pump (maybe...

    Yanmar 2YM15 Going IN!

It has been almost a year since my big overhaul of the steering quadrant in our 1974 E32-2. Steering is working great now. We thought we were done until......Blown engine! We pulled the Yanmar 2GM20 Raw water out to replace what we thought was a bad head gasket. Well it was bad, but one...

    Inverter question: "ground" wire

GFI protected? Using a long extension cord can cause a GFI to trip. Could the AC output be GFI protected? Different extension cord check would seem a good check. Broken insulation - long inductive paths - GFI protection. I dunno. S

Looking to Buy 1971 - 32ft for first boat, need opinion

Hey Dewey, I just (12/07) bought a 1974 E32-2 in San Fran. Has Yanmar Diesel, had new rigging 2 years ago, has 3 year old main, 3 year old jib. No other sails. No fancy electronics. No glamour. Survey indicated "with issues fixed" worth $16k. I've heard San Fran gets a 5-10% premium. Check...
