Fairing, sanding, and painting the deckhead

We stripped our v-berth a few years back due to a long term leak that had been hidden by the headliner. I keep bouncing back and forth with trying to put it back as it was, vs something similar but installed differently, or just fill, fair, and paint. I'm happy to follow along to see how yours...

    Olson911se

Both pictures are of the same condition, just rotated differently. Happy to help with anything as it comes up, either on here or the Facebook group. Lots of Olson 911 owners and former owners in both places, so both should be pretty good resources for you. Ericson used a lot of common parts...

    Olson911se

Not the best pictures, but for some reason it's the best I have at home. The three shrouds have U-shackles on the ends and there is a pin that goes between the two deck plates. The middle U-shackle has a narrower opening than the two outer ones, so the factory machined the pin to that it has a...

    New life lines

We replaced ours about five years ago. The best price we found was through Rigging Only. Ended up sending them our old ones to copy, so that added a bit of cost, but overall it was in the $750 ballpark for our 30 footer with me taking the old ones off and installing the new ones. Also, went to...

    new owner of a 37

Welcome, I have a soft spot for the old IOR 1 Tonners. I tried for a while to find a similar Ranger 37 that wasn't a huge project before landing on our Olson 911.... yeah very different boats. Something about that tumblehome though.

    Opinions on Transom damage

I'm pretty sure that half a teaspoon of Marinetex is what PO's of our boat used as well. It's a bit softer than the surrounding gelcoat when I compound it and it is VERY white compared to the off-white gray gelcoat that Ericson used.

    Opinions on Transom damage

I was told at some point that these transom edges are hard to lay up in the mold and the fiberglass cloth doesn't always get all the way into the corner, or stay put once it's there. So it's common to only have gelcoat and resin along these edges, also a higher likelihood of voids if the resin...

    Sails

As Christian noted, Sailboat Data is a good resource. Looks like the 25+ and 26-2 have identical rig dimensions. Might be others that are similar. You can also take the measurements it gives and plug them into the sail search at Bacon Sails, or Minneys, or any of the other used sail sellers...

Converting helm back into a tiller

Cool. I'll have to read through your review. It was one of the first things we bought for our boat after we purchased it. We went to the Annapolis sailboat show and ran across their booth back in 2010. The product seemed so much better than the similar devices we've seen for tillers and the...

Converting helm back into a tiller

For quick and easy with a tiller, I use a Tillerclutch. https://wavefrontmarine.com/. As long as things are pretty well balanced, it will hold the helm long enough to let you move around a bit. A few years later I added in a Raymarine Evo AP that is fully integrated with my other instruments. It...

Converting helm back into a tiller

I think the major downside to a tiller pilot is that It's not permanently connected. You have to go through the extra effort to pulling it out and connecting it, then when it's not in use, it can be in the way. A below deck AP or wheel pilot is always there ready. Otherwise, a tiller pilot can...

What boat is this? Looks like an Ericson?

    Blooper...

50A to 30A shore power adapter question

Other than the voltage change bit, this is effectively a "tap". There are various rules about taps in the National Electric Code that let you get away with "tapping" into a higher amperage circuit with lower ampacity conductors without overcurrent protection at the tap location. My guess is this...

50A to 30A shore power adapter question

the 125/250V side is 4 wires; L1, L2, N, G and the 125V side is 3 wires; L1 (or L2), N, G. On the 125 side, it's just skipping one of the hot conductors that lets you get to 250V. Nothing wrong with that. The part that is a bit wonky is your boat's 30A main breaker should protect (and limit)...

    T-fitting in Raw Water Circuit

Depending on where you sail, that elbow buildup can also be flashed cooked bio goo. Opening up and then cleaning out that elbow was second to replacing holding tank hoses as far as awful and unforgettable smells. Maybe it was worse... Wear gloves. If any of that liquid gets on your skin it will...
