    Update: I went with original spec steel. it’s slow going, but I finally got a cost estimate. $500! That’s two thirds what I was previously quoted. I’m ecstatic. e25cb

    Thanks! I only polished the flat part on the face of the window. First with an orbital sander and 80, then 240, to get the old paint off. I then used 240 sanding discs on a dremel to clean up any corrosion and pockmarks. Then I put the frame through the dishwasher. next I wet sanded by hand...

    Update: Followed the manual. Who would’ve thunk? Basically, the main sheet holds the boom as a gin pole, then runs to the jib halyard winch on the boom.     I’m glad we pushed on to Kalama. We were more tired than we realized, and I definitely did not want to be on the water at night!

    We made 6-7 kts to Kalama with the tide. 10 hours. Then 6 hours at 5-6 kts to Portland. no incidents to speak of!
