Herbert, that "component" could be a solenoid added by the PO for the glow plugs. Many of us did that to hasten the glow plug time and avoid the long wiring run to the cockpit. If it is faulty, or the grounds from it are, then it's a $10 replacement from AutoZone.
While you have your switch...
Herbert,
Have you checked the wiring harness trailer connectors? Usually called the engine wiring harness upgrade?
Have you checked your main engine ground connection?
Loren, IMHO one of the most least considered issues with dodgers is the height. I personally hate to be outside and have to spend the entire day looking through plastic windows. Our dodger was low because our PO was short, very short. I love it. I can lean up against it and drape my arms...

Naval jelly is only to remove rust. Painting to keep it in good shape is best done with a good Rustoleum product. They do make a high temperature paint that seems to be right what you'd need. Color choice is yours. :) Good luck, looks like nice work.

Chris, I've had a 100A on my M25 for many years. I have a Balmar MC-612 regulator. Instead of the belt manager I use the Small Engine Mode via a simple toggle switch. I'm sure you can find my posts on that forum-to-be-unnamed in the "Electrical 101" topic I sometimes refer to here. Maine...
I've been tracking our fuel consumption for the past 16 years with our M25. The XP is essentially the same engine. We get 0.493 gallons per hour. Headwinds and current have nothing to do with fuel consumption because the engine is running regardless of wind & current, and my experience is...
Chris,
The "structure" of that base is only there to hold up the head itself. You could cut 80% of it away and simply get some other material, like starboard or marine plywood to recover the hole by screwing it down onto the edges you leave. ITWMB (if it was my boat) I'd make the hole as big...
