Cutless bearing replacement

No set screws on the strut. I sanded the strut prior to beginning and was very surprised that there was none. The tolerances on the bearing is so tight that no set screw was deemed necessary I would guess. The bent steel plate was replaced by a thicker plate of better metal. It also bent slightly during removal but I was eventually successful in the removal.
Do you have pics of the puller set up?

This is a resurrected old thread. I did get the bearing out last spring and replaced it using the puller I made. I did apply heat which really helped with a Mapp gas torch while applying pressure with the puller/ pusher.

Sorry RenDe I did not answer your photo question. If you scroll up on this thread you will see 3 photos I posted. I have video but am trying to load them with no success as of yet.

Thanks Christian. You had mentioned that to me once before. I had my daughter create an account but she had to leave before she could walk me through it. I'll get her to show me how this weekend. I saw your post where you mentioned good ole Barneget Bay. I learned to sail on Barny out of Sunrise Beach North of Forked River. Was also on Cedar Creek & Toms River for a while and continued sailing the bay for nearly 30 years. Lots of good memories and many more groundings than I wish to admit, but that comes with the territory so to speak. I remember coming through the inlet under sail in a 25' bubble top Hunter in the 70's before they modified it making it better. It sure was a nasty inlet.

My strut has no set screw/grub screw either. Once the bearing is pressed in there is no way it’s going to spin out except under incredible extreme circumstances...in which case the strut is likely to break off anyway so it might as well spin.
