Log transducer

Last year I hit a log that broke the paddle wheel on my log transducer (no pun intended). It is an old Navico dl200 out of production. I really don't want to replace my old electronics, i even have a second set of the head units. Seems to me that the log should just be sending a pulse, which I should be able to calibrate with the existing electronics, but all the new units are advertised as sending NIMEA serial data.
Any ideas where I could find an old fashioned paddle wheel transducer?

Signet Marine in Southern California still sells and services their paddlewheel sensors and display units. They were very helpful when I needed to replace my existing Signet Marine parts last year. However, I do not know how much work would be involved in substituting Signet's thru-hull fitting for your existing fitting. They even seem to have revived their analog knotmeter, which requires no separate electrical connections. I recognize that many people, for good reason, think that anyone bothering to use a paddlewheel speed sensor in these times is like someone who insists on using a horse to pull his car along the street.

Thanks, I'll check them out. The thing with your analogy is I've already got the carriage and the harness i just need to replace the lame horse.

I just replaced my signet instruments this spring rather than glass over the thru hulls or find new/modern instruments. It just seemed the simplest thing to do given all the other spring work I was doing. They were very helpful. Aaron is the second or third generation to run the place. He was very helpful.

I may have one on my E32-3. We replaced our depth transducer with a DST800 last season. The old Navico log transducer with its red paddle wheel is still in the other thru hull. Can you send more specs about your model to see if it’s a match? Feel free to pm me.

Thanks, will do; I'm trying to repair the paddle wheel since most other options are going to require significant mods. I wonder if yours is a replacement "stowe marine" they had red paddle wheels, alas out of production now - it was the only compatable one I could find on the interweb

You know I've actually had a lot of luck in this area on Ebay. Lots of people sell their old units when they upgrade.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip, basically i think any older analog one will work, it only has two wires, i can calibrate the head unit to match a new wheel. I have seen a couple likely ones on ebay.

The housing id is 1.75 inch and od is 2 inch

Visit a reputable local marine electronic store that specializes in boat electronic system upgrade. The shop will have abundant used equipment for sale at lower price than eBay, have been tested, and can provide assistance if run into problem. I did exact that on Autohelm ST6000 control unit.

Thanks for all the great tips - I think I may have found the solution; through scouring the internet I found a replacement part that besides the colour looked exactly like my broken one. For future reference the one I found is for a GARMIN GST 43. I asked the dealer about the dimensions and they are an exact match of my broken Navico wheel, so I have ordered it and hopefully it will work out!
