Best News is that it has a Yanmar and not a Volvo. The ad sez the rigging was "tuned" and I would be curious about the age of the standing rig. Other than that, price seems quite low to me. Certainly reasonable. Even with trucking cost, if you are moving it.

Desirable Model and PSC was known for great systems installs, like wiring.
Please keep us updated.
Interesting that they show the cruising speed as 6 kt. Perhaps the prop is not pitched right -- should be between 7 and 8, in my experience on an '86 model with a 3 cyl. Yanmar. I like that boarding platform.

If you do not mind a SWAG, I have to wonder if the work cited on pedestal and cockpit sole was due to ignoring moisture intrusion where the half inch base bolts go thru the sole and thru the plywood coring in that area. In our recent re-fit, we found no moisture there, but over drilled and epoxied in those holes just to end any speculation about that going forward. Same for the guard feet thru-bolts.

I cant get anywhere near 8 knots under power. Seven knots max, at which the transom buries. Is that a function of the propeller?
If your KM is more accurately calibrated than the one on the 38 I was on, then maybe I need to ask my friend if he has re-calibrated his recently...!
OTOH, when we were sailing up the WA coast with big genny out, broad reaching/running and doing 8 kts indicated, in about 18 kts of wind, I do believe that it was accurate then.
Not sure what kind of prop he has. I recall that we gave up over a half knot of sailing speed when we switched to a fixed three blade. Our speed under power went up, tho, compared to my old two blade feathering prop; those straight blades are not very efficient.

Theoretical hull speed for a 38 is 7.25 knots. Any faster and it's climbing it's own bow wave.

Wow, looks like a beautiful example. Biggest and newest Ericson anyone can actually purchase.
My impression is that the Pacific Seacraft boats are all very well-built, meeting or exceeding the Ericson-Ericson standards.

From looking at pictures:

The helm electronics etc. are not new.

Does the front of the engine compartment come off?
I presume yes, because it would be a huge PITA to work inside of the drop-in box the picture shows.

I found an old thread listing some known 38's on this site:

The current owner (I believe) is a participating member on this site and if you search for "Winddancer" you may find additional information about this specific boat.

Is that the standard rudder and keel used by Pacific Seacraft? Quite different from the Ericson model. Rudder is low aspect ratio, keel has a bulb.

The bottom paint has been raised above the boottop stripe. But that's pretty common for heavy loaded 38s.
