Reef line size for 35s and 38s

I'm about to order new reef lines, and would like to go down a bit in size for less friction.

My 3/8ths reef lines have 10,000 nm on them, and still look OK. Some wear on areas that go through the leech cringle. But smaller is always better if it works.

So--anybody using 5/16th or smaller on reef lines on the larger Ericsons?

(I'm sticking with 125 feet of 1/2 inch Sampson trophy braid for new genoa sheets (one piece, with lark's head on clew). The cover is frazzled from dragging around shrouds, but the core is still strong. They don't kink and have excellent hand. Quite heavy when wet. )

With todays lines I'm sure 5/16(8mm) would give you plenty of strength and run through the boom/sheaves much easier. While my boat is much smaller it also has 3/8 reefing lines that are very tired that I plan on replacing with 5/16. The only caveat is to be sure your clutches will work with the smaller line.
