Missing boom pin 30 plus

Mike Siegel

Member II
So i seemed to have misplaced the pin that holds the boom to the mast over the winter . It looks to be roughly 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch long . I dont even remember if it had reefing hooks on it or not . Anyone know where i might find one? Seldens website is tough to navigate . Does anyone have pictures of theres ?

Mike,
On my 1984 E30+ it looks like a 3 1/4" bolt with a 3/8" diameter. I would think a stainless steel bolt would be available at any chandlery, unless you're missing the whole goose neck with the horns.

If I've misunderstood and you're missing the vertical pin on the right side of the 3rd pic above, that's just a large clevis pin, if yours is like mine.

The first picture is sailing last summer and you can see the pin with the double reefing hooks and main tack attachment. Second picture is the boom with the pin missing . Anyone know of am online supplier that might have that?

As Frank and others have said, it's apparently just a big clevis pin. They're widely used in the world. Just need to find the right size, in stainless steel. It is just the pin that's missing, right? And you could go sailing with a temporary bolt off the hardware-store shelf.

I get it now--I think. And there's a nut, since the horns pull up the pin. Unusual solution to gooseneck design....

Yes similar . I always thought it was asking alot out of the pin with the reef hooks and main tack but seems to be common to selden masts . I'm going to check my garage one more time . Looks like I'm gonna have to buy a whole new gooseneck. Serves me right I guess , can't believe I misplaced it

Proof load on a 3/8" stainless grade 2 fastener is 4K lbs. You could lift your car with it, albeit I would not want to be anywhere near or under it aloft!

What year is your boat? I ask as I don't think your mast & boom are the original Kenyon brand that I or Frank has. Yours has the look of a Selden maybe ? See attached and scroll down to the fittings there are pins with hooks .

I have found that an independent fabrication/welding shop (often one guy) can make a fitting like this. You may want to save some $ and buff it out yourself. Just bring a real good drawing and any photos you have, like from this thread.
