Hello folks-
This information seems to be new to people even at the Richmond Yacht Club / Tradewinds sailing... anyway, many of us use boatyards that require going up the Richmond Ship Channel area but are otherwise not familiar with the local knowledge up there. I ran across this, posted just last month:
*** FYI: Note especially near the Richmond Ship Channel entrance:
1) The wreck by Red "8" for those of us that tend to hug the edge of the channel (thus near the buoys) when ships are sharing it with us
and nearer the oil tanker (Chevron) piers:
2) The Sewer Outflows just South of Red "6" (not the Rich. Ship channel R6, but a bit North near the tanker piers). I never go in there, but FYI.
PS: I might suggest we start a thread of known (but not well-publicized) hazards in the central bay area? I regularly watch people sail/motor through gaps in the Berkeley Pier, for instance (and have caught up with and warned two, and seen a third (large motor cruiser) hit some submerged pier at decent speed and then... go _back through_ looking to see what they hit ?! Plus, the number aground on the mud flat N of the the Emery Cove channel is a regular unintended parking spot, and I have seen a person with a 6' draft stuck just outside of the Emeryville / Emery Cove channel when there should have been 7' of water... and I know Clipper Cove has gotten trickier to navigate in recent years, and the Berkeley Marina entrance needs dredging (maybe they did it now?) I bet others in the area know of/can post more details of similar local hazards...
