Antifouling paint question

New Member
I recently purchased an Ericson 29 {1974) the previous owner had used Interlux Vinyl bottom paint. My question is do I have to use vinyl paint, are there compatibility problems with other paints? Has anyone used ablative paints over vinyl, were there any problems if you did. I just don't want multiple layers of bottom paint building up. Any advice would be appreciated. The boat will be located on Eastern Long Island, New York, and hauled out in the winter. Thanks Bob

I would contact them to be on the safe side. Chances are, you'll be able to go to another paint with some preparation. You can reach Interlux at:

Interlux Yacht Finishes
