Backing up Genoa Winches

I'm looking at adding a G10 plate under the coming where the big genoa winches are sited. Is 1/4" thick sufficient on a 8x10 plate?

Thanks.

Mort, that should be fine. I assume you are using one large plate to back all fastners.

Small world. I have recently removed our winches to add some risers under each one. As a part of the project I will put some G10 plates beneath -- probably not needed... just seems like a good idea. Either 1/4" or a tad thicker should be plenty strong. The new plate will be "bedded" against the underside with thickened epoxy.

Be sure to over-bore the old holes first, fill with epoxy, and rebore.
I hope that you do not find any water intrusion in the coring.

Loren,

Like you, I used 1/4" G10 for backing plates which worked just great. I also took it one step further and machined spacers out of G10 the thickness of the deck to avoid any sandwiching and to give a solid base once the bolts are tightened.

My concern was having a void with the balsa coring between the winch base and the G10 backing plate.
