Can I use the cooking stove that came with the boat CNG powered with a LPG retrofit system?
Thank you

Others here have commented in the past about making a burner orifice change over, but I do not know if this scheme is available for all range brands and models. After all these years you will be changing out the OEM hoses and regulator anyway would be my guess. Perhaps you could also explore Plan B, and source a good price on a propane range. (?)
Note that when repurposing a CNG stove it's possible that there might be insurance ramifications, also.

Hi Matias,
This is something I may tackle at some point. I've saved the following links on the subject. Some may be helpful for you.

To do it to full ABYC specs it gets rather complicated.
Cheers,
Jeff

Matias,
Just curious— why do you want to convert? Are you planning to cruise far from home? That would be one good reason.
However, we continue to use CNG. We bought an adapter and take our tank to a filling station. I see that there are many CNG stations around NYC. For about $2.00 we get enough to last at least an entire season.

Sorry for late replies. Work sometimes gets out of control. PRAIRIE Thank you for the resources.
JOLIBA I don't have really a good reason, but to say what I have looks old and tired. I wanted to refresh the system with new install to feel safe and incase we sail overseas. I was looking for a new LPG kitchen and its pretty expensive.

Excuse the metaphor. I'm in the same boat, I have CNG and I am holding out as long as I can. I love the way it cooks (and bakes). Hate the weight of the tank and the lack of sources to fill it. I have one source in the SF Bay Area and at $38.50 a pop.

I bought a back-up un-pressurized alcohol stove top (Oringo) that I will use when the stove stops working or my source for gas disappears. I have used this type of stove on other boats and they are ok. They are difficult to find now but work so simply they are unlikely to break down. If you can find a used one, the cost is a fraction of what it would cost for propane. Mine came from a Catalina 22. It was unused and $300. I am told I overpaid but felt that I could afford it at the time. I will loose the ability to bake cookies and frozen lasagna on long races as it does not have an oven. That sucks but can make due with hot ramen, coffee, tea and canned chili! Nothing like canned meats!

Grant,
If you get an adapter, you can probably fill the CNG tank yourself costing about $2.00 to completely fill a large tank at a CNG filling station. A smaller tank such as you probably have would cost about $1.00. I see that there are a few stations in the SF area. I do this with my tank. Every 5 or 10 years the tank also needs to be pressure tested and stamped. Fire extinguisher service centers can do that for you.

Yes, there is definitely high risk involved and one must use extreme caution. Maybe I'm lucky to still be alive.

I'm a risk taker! And firm believer in engineering and physics! At least when safety is concerned. Would love to put together my own adapter but finding a station here in California that would let me use it is another story! I have considered bribes or making a friend that works there but decided that $38.50 is less expensive than doing either and also removes me from any additions risks that I already incur on the race course. I guess I'll ride this train till it stops.
