Having hit my early 80’s, years have become as short as months or even weeks anymore!
I’ve owned and maintained maintained my ‘73 E-32 since new and she’s still going strong! (Anymore, stronger than me! ) This go-round I had to hire someone for the heavy stuff.
…Years ago I replaced all the cockpit drain hoses but since lost track exactly of when or long ago that was. My mind unfortunately kept telling me it was still all brand new…But IT WASN’T!
The ABYC recommends these hoses of course be checked regularly - BUT - ALSO be replaced at least every ten years! …A fact that perhaps too many boaters are totally unaware of.
They are thick, and wrapped well in heavy tape leading one to think they are industructible and will last forever. - THEY ARE NOT!
We were fortunate! …The original motor mounts in ‘73 were nothing more than angle iron and although we had scraped them clean and wrapped them in fiberglass, they eventually and inevitably gave out.

The engine was pulled and the discovered damage was more severe than thought! (I’ll
be doing a separate thread on the motor mount replacements as well shortly)

…In the process of replacing the mounts, noticed a small drip of water from one of the hoses. Further checking revealed how broken down and dilapidated ALL the hoses were…and remembered how long since last replaced!

NOTEWORTHY!!!…Also, back in 73 at least, Ericson made custom T fittings of copper to connect the aft and front cockpit drains to the thru hull. The dissimilar metals had taken a serious toll on the copper which we are now replacing with bronze pieces.
Everything back in place

(Motor mount rebuild solution and replacement soon to follow.)
