Depth Sounder Alarm Problem

We were out enjoying a great sail this weekend when our depth sounder went off... after the wave of panic that welled up in my stomach, I realized that we were in a few hundred feet of water and that we had either passed over a whale or that the alarm was triggered somehow and got stuck.

After screwing around with different things... we think that it is linked to when our autopilot is on. The autopilot dosen't have to be engaged, just on... and they are both tied into the same instrument fuse on our panel.

This hasn't happened before and the only way to make the alarm shut off is to kill the switch at the panel - otherwise you get to hear that high pitched beeeeep all day long. Seems to me there is interference somewhere - how to tell?

Any ideas on troubleshooting? Thanks!
