E25 Companionway Hatch

Yesterday I tacked a question onto an old thread titled, "Making a Sliding Hatch." Today I am starting a new thread, because it seems I may be facing a problem that might be specific to the E25. This morning I removed several of the pieces of teak from my hatch to see what might be between the teak and the fiberglass on the underside of the hatch. As it turned out, there was nothing there. In other words, it appears that in the manufacturing process they constructed a fiberglass shell and then laid the teak upon it. An E27 owner in the "Making a Sliding Hatch" thread mentioned that he discovered plywood between his teak and the fiberglass shell. Martin King and others speak of constructing new hatches by using some sort of plywood as a stiffener/foundation for the entire hatch.

Is it possible that the E25 hatch was constructed simply by placing teak upon a fiberglass mat shell?

Thanks for any help or suggestions,
Roscoe

I would suggest some site searching, since there are other similar threads, and some good project photos therein.

Perhaps someday we might want to combine a group of these Hatch Threads into a single thread or a project listing.

Regards,
Loren

ps: Bad lyric switch here, somewhere... "Hatch maker hatch maker make me a hatch!" (from "The Carpenter on the Roof")

Thanks Loren for all the one-on-one help today and for posting these additional links. Will keep everyone posted on how this project unfolds.

Best regards,
Roscoe

P.S. With all the links and sublinks to companionway hatches, I think someone out there could do quite well as the Hatchmaker mentioned in your lyrics.
