Hi I am thinking about buying an E27 but the main bulkhead is starting to rot any ideas if it can be replaced "easily" ie. not taking the boat apart? and coul this repair be done on land or should the boat be in the water and could you sail the boat lightly if the repair was not completer?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I am a value investor but there are some things which are bad deals at any price. I hate to say it but I think this is one of them. I wouldn't knowingly buy a boat with this issue unless you had an "in" with a very good woodworker...in which case you wouldn't be asking the question. There are plenty of used boats out there which don't have it.

My E32 had this problem last summer. I happen to keep the boat very close to a boatyard which had an expert Belizian marine carpenter with some time on his hands who cut out the rot and somehow replaced the wood with a beautiful scarf joint. This was not a do-it-yourself job and cost almost $3k; replacing the bulkhead would have cost triple that and I was prepared to scrap the boat.

Hi: thanks for the info. as it turns out I didn't get the boat. It was the E27 listed on e-bay. Such is life. I am still looking for a good used 27 somewhere out east (Canada,Us) for a good price. Hopefully one will come along, I really like the layout of the interior and the cockpit. The construction seems better than alot of other boats around the same size and price.
Thanks again
Rob
