E28 Binimi

Hi, new to the list. I have a 28 Ericson in Sandusky Ohio and am in the need of a Bimini. Ithought I would check to see if anyone else has purchased a Bimini here or has suggestions for one for this boat. I've looked at the big box sporting goods stores and the price is tempting compared to the cost I've been quoted from a custom canvas place. I’m a bit torn between the big box price and the fit and quality of a custom top.

Thoughts?

Check out Taylormade

I was inspired by the pictures of Annapolis E-27's bimini, to buy an off the shelf Taylormade Bimini. (See link below)

Got a price on-line and brought it into West Marine for a price match. Unfortunately it is still in the box!

Had this custom made for my E-28. Dodger and small bimini with a piece to zip inbetween. It was a great investment (although i'm sure prices are cheaper here in Asia). Hope this inspires

Both good suggestions. Still looks like the two options will both work, just need to figure out which way to go.

Bimini Support

We have been considering a bimini -- looked at lot of examples and a lot of boats.

One decision you need to make is whether to have the long side support legs come all the way down to combing or side deck. Often this puts them in conflict with the pulpit legs, any aft-mount winches, or the place you perch your buns when driving.
While it's admittedly more of a custom design feature, putting that pivot/attachment point up on both sides of the pulpit rail really helps all these concerns.

Pulpit Mount

I've been considering that. One thing the concerns me is that the pulpit is not the strongest I've ever seen and I'm just a bit worried about mounting the Bimini that high and on a pulpit that is not overly strong. Thoughts? On my old boat the Bimini was mounted outside the cockpit and inside the pulpit mounts. We never had any reason not to like that setup. I have seen other Biminis mounted on the Pulpit.
