E28+ rudder movement

Gary G

Member II
My 1983 E28+ has a small ( no more than 1/4 inch) fore and aft movement to the rudder. Is this something I need to be concerned about? Is is there an adjustment somewhere I can use to tighten things up or do I need to remove the rudder and replace some bushings or bearings? Is there a packing gland involved in this in some way? Thanks in advance for information and tips on addressing this issue.

My 1983 28+ does the same thing, and there seems to be no adverse effects. You can reduce the play by loading up the bearing with 90 weight grease, which I do at the start of each season. You can access the bearing through the deck plate.
