E30+ Engine | M-18 | Need Front Cover and Gasket Source

While putting in a new fuel polishing system (I'll share that info in a separate post) I looked my engine over and discovered an oil leak on the front where the arrow is pointing to (the white circle). I cleaned it up and someone patched over whatever hole was there (also, what IS that for?) using JB Weld.

1st question is...what should be there?
2nd Question: Who has a source for that front cover and gaskets?

I'd like to replace the cover, instead of "fixing" the JB Weld spot where a bit of oil leaks out under operation.

I think that is an original part of the casting. Mine has the same. Not sure what it is for. Are you sure that is where the oil leak is originating? I seem to remember from the alternator bracket replacement posts that the entire case is not available anymore.

First you have to identify what Kubota engine the M-18 is based on. I vaguely remember that someone on the forum had that information. Try a search. Once you have that information you can get a part number for the gear cover gasket. Try going to Westerbeke for a source on the gear cover itself.

Maybe a leaky water pump caused corrosion of the case? Odd place for impact damage. You would likely have to find an old engine on eBay or something in order to replace the whole gear cover case or take it to a machine shop and see if they can repair it.
