E35-2. What's ballast is in the keel ?

Anyone know if it is lead bricks, or shot, or casting(s), or something else ?

Our 73 E32-2 is very close in design to the 35-2.

I hit the forward bottom of our keel really hard once and sadly punched a hole in it. When hauled to check and repair, a lot of lead shot poured out.

It was/is my understanding there’s a solid lead ingot encased in the keel and that more lead shot was used as an additional filler around the ingot as well. I have no idea as to how many pounds of shot were added by Ericson though.

According to an article in Practical Sailor published in the year 2000, the total ballast was 5000 lbs. The article did not say where it got that information from, and I have never seen a published figure anywhere else.
