Ericson 31 porthole screens

First post (of I am sure many) after recently acquiring an E31 Independence. Has anyone had success replacing the screen material in the original, what appears to be bronze screen frames?

For mine I made a template of the inside opening of the port then cut bronze screen material a little oversized and force fit it into the opening. It's enough to hold it in place without dealing with a screen frame or taking the port apart. Every once in a while one pops out, and I just put it back in.

I cut my damaged screens out and then used a Dremel to open up the groove. I cut nylon screens to size, tacked them in with glue and then ‘pinched’ the screen with a vice. I stripped the paint from the brass with a polisher. It was labor intensive but they looked nice when completed. My wife then decided she wanted air conditioning and I’ve barely use them. Oh well.
