Ericson 35 Mk 3 Bacchus is sold

It is with a degree of sadness that I let folks know that we have sold our 35-3, and are moving on to trawler ownership. She has been ours for a short period of time, but that time has illustrated that it is the wrong vessel for us at this point in our life and in this location. One of the major highlights of our time with Bacchus was the PNW meet up in Anacortes, we met so many nice people and totally enjoyed the time. I intend to stay active in this forum because I know the boat inside and out and might be able to help others on systems questions.

What is ironic is that during our cruise for the meetup in Anacortes, we stayed for a few days in Deer harbor marina. While there I saw a pocket trawler come in and was struck by its form and functionality. Then when we got back to our home marina in Blaine Wa, the same type of boat newly arrived across from our slip. My wife and I both got a tour of the boat, and decided it was the next step for us. The boat is a Camano 31 Troll, it has a single Volvo Penta 200 which sips fuel at hull speed, our preferred method of travel, and has bow and stern thrusters to help with docking anxiety. The Ericson was always an adventure getting in and out of the slip.

This is a wonderful group of people and I would like to stay in touch. Our boat ownership history with locations is as follows: Ericson 29 SF bay, Catalina 320 SF bay, Aquasport 215 sport clearwater FL, Tiara 4000 Express Clearwater FL, Key West 215 Bay reef Clearwater fl, Ericson 35-3 Bellingham Washington, Camano 31 Troll, Bellingham Washington.

There have been an elapsed 1.5 yers of our life together where we didn't have a boat.

Now, here is the big question.... Anyone out there interested in a 35 foot Diesel pusher RV in well cared for condition???

Thanks for sticking around! I found a picture from this summer's rendezvous. :egrin:
I hope your next boating adventure is as fulfilling. I would guess that the Camano owners also have a web site and have get-togethers on the waters in Puget Sound and in BC.
We have an older Camano and a newer Helmsman Trawler in our little YC, both owned by former sailors. They really like them.
That said, I hope your Ericson's new owner checks in here often.

Hello to all. I am the new owner of Bacchus and enjoying learning a new boat. Curious if anybody has replaced the plexiglass ports that open up the latches are Bomar? We have moved her to Jerrells Cove Marina.

It's a fairly easy project with a 1/4 template bit in a router and a drill. You can use just about anything to make the rough cut out. Polishing the edges is pretty simple as well.

Welcome! Congratulations, you have a great boat there. I came very close to buying her last fall. Glad she has found a good home!

I can’t help with the Bomars, but it looks like you have a good solution for the replacement plexiglass. I would want to replace the gaskets and seals too. I’ll be replacing all my Lewmar port lights as soon as the weather warms up a bit. They are all taped up and tarped over now. Can’t wait to have a leak-free boat.

Good idea to start a new thread re the portlights, or add to existing thread.

Not a big deal, just keeps the info together. Excerpt from my blog:

This boat has big, husky Bomar opening portlights with removable half-inch acrylic lenses. Craig [owner of a local plastics shop] copied all seven of them, and the main and forward hatches and companionway slider, for $350 labor. He says the best way to get a good result is to bring the originals in as templates. "Measurements never work." He's also making me a half-inch one-piece hatch board out of the same Grey acrylic.

My model of Bomar portlights takes a half-inch round neoprene gasket. My originals were quite flat and hardened, although they didn't leak. New neoprene is available from Hammerhead Nautical Systems in Ontario, Canada (416-767-0222, 1-877-767-0222, info@hhns.ca). Installation is easy with DAP Weldwood contact cement, which when tacky instantly bonds and holds the neoprene to its shallow channel.

Fair to say that the action here is in the "Forums." The pulse of the site is Q and A, and the sharing of info about our boats.


The forum categories sort of divide up the topic world into intelligible chunks. "Maintenance and mechanical" seems to be king. "The Raftup" is for when in doubt.

"Blogs" are member records preserved for themselves and everybody else. They often chronical long boat projects, or voyages, and are intended for reading rather than active response.
