Ericson independence 1979 refit

I bought my first boat early last year and it’s a 31 independence. I’ve been through a massive overhaul on the boat, but there was so many pros when I bought the boit I felt like it was good enough to dive in. New seacocks, new insulation, replacement of deckhead panels. The engine is a 2019 beta 25 so I got lucky with that.

I took the hull back to bare fiberglass to look for osmosis blisters. I found 20 small ones so I reglassed, barrier coated and antofouled. Top sides are currently getting painted but the hull is done.

Interior had major electrical refit, 400w solar, 2000w inverter, solar mppt / dcdc charger for the 240a lithium I put in with all new wiring. I also have a Blake’s and Taylor baby toilet / head it’s a real masterpiece, I was going to throw it out until I found out it’s a £5000gbp toilet!! Crazy!

I have a fuel polishing system which is 2 racors and a large filter on a closed loop. Also a boiler which runs off the engine.

a lot of work went into getting the systems back online but it’s working great!! I think the Ericson 31 are a real eye opener and everyone compliments the boat.

other things, new running rigging, starlink, new cutlass and r&r coupling, new rigging on the bow sprit. if there’s any independence lovers out there to share any stories I’d love to hear from you and see how to did your refit!

heres some pictures of the journey 426A10AC-C558-43E0-A481-7D875EEC029A.jpeg

Thanks

Nice. Interesting modification of the toe rail. Was that a project you did or a previous owner?
We have that same Renogy charger/MPPT unit. It has worked well for two years now.

That’s good news regarding the mppt. The toe rail was from previous ownership but it’s a great add on.
