EW-36 C Staysail boom

I am reinstalling a Staysail on my 1977 E-36C that was removed by the previous owner. The rigging is missing the staysail boom. Where might I find the specs for the staysail boom?

Just wondering ... do you really need a staysail boom? What do other E-36C owners say?
I now have a (1977 - same as you!) Westsail 32, which originally was rigged with one, but lots of W32s are not using them any more - mainly because they get in the way of convenient foredeck use (e.g., dinghy storage).

I note that different NA's have differing rigging ideas for controlling the clew of an inner (stay) sail. Same for a foresail. Whether a track or a boom, there will be 'stuff' to work around or stumble over on a foredeck. Is a lot of reaching contemplated? Full disclosure, I have never done a delivery on a boat with a permanent staysail, but have done a coastal passage on a boat with a staysail that was used only in heavy weather. No boom or track, however.

nquigley/Loren,

The short answer is I don't know. The original setup had a stay sail boom but the staysail system was removed.
I have seen the boomless staysails and thought that is the way to go, but thought I would check the Ericson community for people that have built these Ericson's for insight. The previous owner added the storage box on the foredeck and when the staysail was removed (see image).
The original track is still in place and I believe a boomless system would work just fine, but then again I am looking or advise.

For what it’s worth, our 31 Independence’s staysail has a track and no boom. As you suspected, it works just fine.

Nice looking boat! I'm a bit biased, though - my 'new' boat is a 1977 Westsail 32, which is very similar in design and internal layout to yours, except that she has a full keel - not as nimble as your boat will be :)

Do you still have the traveler track and/or pedestal for the staysail boom installed?
I have some BK drawings for 36C and could sketch up something close on the hardware if that would help. The deck plan shows routing of the traveler and sheets as well as the boom pedestal. Sail plan can be scaled for boom length.

I like having the self tending staysail with boom especially if beating into stronger wind with reefed main, nice when short handed to be able to just tack back and forth. Boom can sometimes get tangled in the forward shrouds with the traveler let way out. If I were to remove my boom I might also be tempted to try setting the staysail un-hanked, w/o the inner stay. The forward deck would be a great place to put a dinghy but for the inner stay and staysail boom.
