"Exciting Changes at Quantum Sails" Email - Privacy Concerns

Just curious, but did anyone else recieve an "Exciting Changes at Quantum Sails" email this morning? Since I "own" my own domain name, I use a unique email address ("eyo@..." for this site) for almost everything I do. It allows me to keep track of who "shares" my email address, or who "steals" it.

I don't recall ever giving Q my email address, and if I did, I would not have given them "eyo@..." to which the email was sent. It looks like a regional email (PNW), so I wonder if they went through the eyo database for PNW boats. This is the first spam I've recieved at the eyo address (at least it wasn't for Viagra). I AM NOT saying that eyo knowingly shared my email address.

As an aside, since I started using unique email addresses for online stuff, I've found most companies did not share my email address with 3rd parties, with the very notable exception of JamesTownDistributors which accts for a huge percentage of my spam.

And yes, companies sending me unsolicited emails is a pet peeve of mine, and I'll call them on it when I can.

I've never bought sails from Q, and I am certainly no more likely to now.

Not me...

Not me, at either of the two domains I use... one of them for over a decade.
My SWAG is that, at some point in time, on the 'net or at a boat show, or somesuch "contact" you unintentionally gave them your email addy. Or, they have a "friend referral" program and another sailor gave this this info.
Maybe.

I do get regular email newsletters from UKSails NW, but with my permission, and the unsub. procedure is plainly stated in each one.

Best,
Loren

Not me

Not me, and I've purchased Quantum sails. They have my email address, but left me out.

I also have Quantum sails and have received no e-mails from them. And I know they have my e-mail address as they e-mailed me the bills. :egrin:

Internet Gnomes

Well, since it seems to be an isolated case I'm going to quit pointing my finger at Quantum and am going to blame those mischeivious Internet Gnomes instead.

EricsonYachts Privacy - User Email Addresses

No one is given user email addresses from the EY.o database - period.

When someone sends you an email via the site, you have the option of retaining your privacy by replying via the form (if you reply directly, your email address is revealed).

Vendors get email addresses from a number of places. If you're registered with any mail order vendor, your email address and shipping/mailing address are commonly sold - if you've posted a thread - here or elsewhere - and placed your email address in it, a search engine spider can pick it up.

Additional information on the EY.o Privacy Policy can be found at:

If anyone have questions on the policy, or how the site or boards operate, please feel free to email me at sean@ericsonyachts.org.

Thanks,

Hi Sean,

I know you wouldn't give out email addresses, privacy policy or not. But there are ways email addresses can be "harvested". I was befuddled because its an email address I use exclusively for EYO. In any case, I am sticking to my second guess of how it happened, and will be boycotting the Internet Gnomes.:egrin:

Just got the same email

I just got this email too... However there could be a number of places that they got my address from. I AM pretty sure that I didn't give it to them directly. I have given it to a couple other sail lofts (UK, Sailrite, maybe FX I don't remember). Also gave it to ASA and a couple insurance companies.

Anyway, it's low on my list of hated spam. At least they're not trying to sell me a watch or V!^gra.
