Fixing E39B porthole plugs and restoring color

Sven

Seglare
We finally got the work started to fix the plugs for the E39 portholes which show up on the E39B, removing an unsightly TV and cable connector from the outside of the hull (!!), and the restoration of a more traditional Ericson blue color.

When the craftsman dug into the plug hiding the cutouts from the flush deck model he found that the plug was not made out of fiberglass ! It was just plywood that had been epoxied over. No wonder the plugs showed through the gelcoat. I met another owner at the Isthmus who said he'd had his fixed many times but the cracks always came back. If he just had the cracks fixed and didn't replace the plywood I'm not surprised that the cracks came back. Our craftsman ripped out the plywood and put in three layers of glass mat and epoxy. Once he gets it sanded smooth and coats it all with the midnight blue LP (stripe and waterline) she should look absolutely gorgeous.

We'll still have the standing rigging and mast painting to so, but we are getting closer :)
