The bad news is the threads for the stay are stripped. The lower unit was feeling stiff and I was attempting to lubricate it when the entire thing came out into my hands. I thought it had somehow unscrewed itself but I couldn't get the fitting to grip anything at all. So much for my week at Two Harbors. The good news is that I did not get dismasted halfway across the channel to Catalina. I'm waiting to hear from a local rigger to see if there can be a quick turnaround, but I don't have my fingers crossed.

The Furler is ancient, there are no brand markings. The vessel is due for new standing rigging. No sense in just doing the fore stay and then worrying about the rest of it. But considering over 5 years the 21 voyages to Catalina, all of the Day sails, all of the overnight anchorings off the coast of Long Beach, and everything I've learned about the art of sailing, has been well worth the $3,000 spent on my vessel, new rigging is the least I could do for the old girl.
