G10/FR4 Epoxy grade "Garolite"

Looking around McMaster I found this stuff "G10/FR4 Epoxy grade "Garolite"" which I am assuming is the same as the G10 FRP material that others have spoken of for reinforcing cleats, etc? If so, would it be usable to make a quadrant reinforcing plate to mount an AP ram? I looked into bronze plate but way too expensive and aluminum will not do for corrosion reasons. TIA, RT

G10

In a thickness of, say, half inch, it should last forever.

It is, after all, compressed layers of cloth and epoxy.

Check the photos in this thread and follow the link to Maine Sail's site ... looks like some AP photos.

Perhaps Maine Sail might have some comments about how to install a ram, as well.

Best,

Loren

Rob..

Garolite G-10 is great stuff although expensive. Splitting a 3X4 sheet with a buddy is a good option! One thing I will mention is that this stuff EATS saw blades.

If you don't need the perfect thickness characteristics of the G-10 it's very easy to laminate your own fiberglass and epoxy sheets. All you need is a piece of waxed glass, some fiberglass cloth and epoxy...

P.S. The product in my rudder position sensor photos is Starboard..
