Grounding fuel tank

Hi all. How would one ground a polyetheyn gas tank. Fill is metal. Would a ground wire from the fill connect
to the sender and then a wire to the buss bar. There are metal straps that secure the gas tank. Could these metal straps
be used as ground running a wire to buss bar???? Thanks....Chris

Hmm... What you describe is possible - but why would you care to ground it at all? It's plastic, so no corrosion is possible. No stray currents will go through it... The only reason left is a concern about static charge and potential sparks, right?

With my plastic tank the filler tube is grounded which helps with static charges from refueling with a gas hose.

Good point. For this purpose any wire attached to the bus or engine block will do, IMHO - you do not expect a large current there at any time.

Specifically, the ground is to prevent a static charge on the boats fuel system/filler/cap that would create a spark when you touch the metal fuel filler nozzle to your boats fuel filler hardware. I am unaware of any need beyond that purpose if you have a non-metal fuel tank. Chuck
