Exploring the BC Coast E35-2, Yanmar 3GM30
Well I am on the hard and have been for two weeks with a week to go. I wanted to share some insights on the items in the title in the hope that it helps fellow Ericson owners.
1. Let's start with antifouling as I found a supplier who offers quite a deal which if in the Pacific Northwest should be appealing. Columbia Coatings is a manufacturer of marine paints in Delta BC. They have high quality, old school high copper content antifouling for $150/Gallon. (see Facebook Marketplace) They are a wholesaler only but sell their marine paint to the public....Also have rollers, extendable roller handles, trays, gloves etc for very little money.
2. After a complete sanding of the hull topsides, I applied a base or undercoat, followed by sanding and filling and more undercoat. I then applied the NEW Topcoat paint called Interlux Toplac. I have used Interlux Brightside, which I loved but it is out of production. I have a sense that Toplac is the same paint. I will do 3 coats and employ the Roller Tip method as I don't know how else one would do this. I have done two coats at time of writing. They say no need to sand between coats but I did do a full palm sander round with 320 grit after the first coat.
3. Finally, the fun bit was the new name placement. I did 4 coats on the Stern prior to the placement of the name. Prior, the name was Akevitt and name was forward on the hull of both sides. I favor stern placement and Brubeck has meaning for me (us).
4. The characteristic Ericson stripe at the hull top is now Ocean Blue as opposed to Burgundy. the pictures show masking tape coming lose and is not sloppy painting... tedious little job for sure
5. Lastly, not pictured, are the decks and cabin top which are now white on white.
Note - The yellow ladder in the forth photo is a frenemy. Up and down that nasty thing hundreds of times as the paint tray shelf is lacking.
