A friend is moving his E34 T up river and there is a bridge with 50ft clearance. Sailboat data shows an I 0f 43 ft making this a 7 ft clearance.
This seems like a go to me, can I get a second d opion?

I believe that the "I" measures from deck level to the attachment point for the top of the headsail.
The distance from waterline to deck level needs to be added, and also the distance from the top of the headsail to the top of whatever is attached to the masthead, like lights and antennas. I suspect that the actual clearance will be somewhere between close and too close.

You can verify for your particular rig by running a 100-foot tape measure up to the top with a spinnaker halyard, and measuring to the water surface next to the boat. That'll give you a good idea of the height of the masthead, and then (as Loren says) add for the height on any lights, instruments, antennae, etc that extend above the masthead.
