Length of spinnaker pole for E29

I recently purchased an E29 with a spinnaker pole of about 13'. The PO thought that the pole may have come from a different boat and was likely too long.

Any thoughts on what the length of a pole should be on an E29?

A quick search for specs brings up a J measurement of 12.24'.
So while a slightly longer pole would be fine for everyday sailing, it would incur a penalty if racing.

O-dog,

The pole will work well as a whisker pole. If you have the topping lift for the pole even better. You can really lock the jib winged out at large angles with it on the pole.
If you have a spinnaker, you will probably try it and like it for long downwind legs in light wind. It's not too big on the E29 to be hard to manage. If you have a place to store it on deck (or out of the way at home) having all the spin gear should help resale down the road.

No topping lift currently, I might add one this winter when the mast is off. Have the spinnaker and am looking forward to trying it next summer.

thanks
