Unfortunately it's common to lump LiFePO4 with Li-ion and the other chemistry capable of thermal run away. I thought/ hoped the cost guard wouldn't do the same.
Yup. I kinda wondered about that also. To cut them some slack though, they deal with fires that have to be fought with little accurate technical knowledge when they get the emergency call-out, and probably need to assume the worst.
I say that because a year ago at a local fire fighting seminar conducted for a group of our interested yacht club members at the nearby PDX fire station, the instructor lumped all of these "Li" battery types together when describing their extreme difficulties in fight some fires in the airport parking structure involving EV's. This was just a small part of the Q&A after we all got the lecture on types of (A, B, C) extinguishers on our boats and we all got to put out a live practice fire.
