If someone doesn't have a scrap of plywood you can have, you may want to consider fabricating a 2'x2'x1/2" foot piece out of solid woods, or start with 1/4" plywood base and glue teak and holly on top. You could then make it match the existing pattern of the teak and holly(if things like that keep you up at night!).
