Looking for an Ericson 29 - 35 (BC or Wa preferred)

Hello all,

Just in case someone here is thinking of selling, we are looking for our first keelboat. We had an offer on a '76 E29 which got away from us, but are now re-evaluating our size and budget parameters. Having studied most of the Ericson models from 27 through 35 (I love the 38, but probably too much for a first boat), I think we could be happy with a 29, 30, 30+, 32, 34 or 35. We are located near Victoria, Canada, so locations in BC or Wa are preferred, but we will travel further for the right boat. My sanity requires that we find a boat soon, so please help save me from giving up and buying at Catalina 30... ;)

(laughing) I do, too, despite being giddily happy with Makana.

ObNote, there are a couple of mid-80s C&C-34s that have popped up on craigslist recently. Not an Ericson, but a Bruce King design, well-built and in the right size range, so... might be worth a look.

I think one sold, but here's the other one:

There's a '79 E29 in Port Hadlock, it looks like.

Thanks, I'm looking into the E29, but it would have to be cheap to justify the trip and the A4 engine. The 30+ in Everett is priced about the same as one up here, but is not nearly as nice.

Just for fun, I got a uship quote for the '71 32' listed at YW in San Diego for $10K, and the average shipment cost was $2400 to Everett. Seems not too bad, but I don't know about the logistics of buying a US boat, along with transport, insurance, etc. But if something really interesting comes up further south than Wa. I might look at it.

Interesting, I had forgotten that he did this design for C&C. Nice boat, but I have come to detest unframed lexan windows, I think because I have seen so many that look awful, and attempts to make them look better usually fail. I suppose one could replace them with framed Lewmars. I have come to really like the Ericson window designs, yes I know they can leak, but they seem to age much better than most, and the consistency in design across the models and years is admirable.

Couple of 35-2s on CL

These two have been on CL for a while, but I wasn't really interested before. The first one might be worth a look. The second presumably has a dead or missing engine with the OB on the transom. If anyone has any knowledge of either of these (or the 29 in Port Hadlow), please let me know...

edit: the broker on the E29 in Port Hadlow just told me it has a full price offer ($8500 with an A4). Apparently, boats are not any cheaper south of the border, at least at the lower price ranges.

While I do know of any for sale today, keep your eye open for an Ericson 33RH or an Olson 911s.
While nowadays it is fashionable to use the phrase 'performance cruiser' to sell boats, these designs were already perfectly filling that need.

Is this a 32-200? Interior layout is definitely not 32-3 (I thought 'why the heck don't I have a double galley sink!?')

I posted that one here a few days ago in case anyone was interested. At the time, I was pretty sure I was buying the 29, and this one is outside my current price range. But things may change. The listing says 1990, which makes it a 32-200, I think, or did they sell the 32-3 and 32-200 concurrently for a while? Sailboatdata also mentions a 333 in 1996?

Thanks, I will, but I don't think I've seen any Olson 34/911s around here yet. I'm basically back to looking at anything floating with a mast and a for sale sign... :)

I saw only two Ericsons today (not for sale, just walking docks), a 32-2 and 35-2, were both considerably rougher on the topsides and hull (peeling paint) than the 29 I lost out on, which had remarkably good deck condition for its age.

32-200. The identifiers are recessed companionway, aft head, double sink, mast position (no dinette) and so on.

The 32-3 has the head forward, and that design (seems to) move the mast forward and create the dinette.

The 200 has a larger quarterberth (aft cabin) and a smaller V-berth.

The hull, spar position, keel and rudder are the same for both models. Each interior layout has plusses and minuses.

My mistake. Craigslist boat in Ladner is a 32-200 (same as when I looked at it). I ended up buying a 32-3.

If you have the cash the boat in Ladner is nice, I checked her out last week, the owner is a nice guy and while it isn’t posted it comes with free moorage for a while (I think it may be through dec but not sure!).

I decided it was too small or would have taken it, now I’m going to check out Shaun’s 38
