What's a compass?

Maaaan, even my cell phone has a compass, and GPS, and Navionics charts, and weather bouy data, and, believe it or not, the ability to communicate with people from most places in the San Pedro Channel.

Maybe they cound take a College course and learn that the SUN rises in the East and Sets in the west.That way if they can't afford a compass, they could sail toward the rising sun, or away from the setting sun. They would "Discover" California, and that Governor "Moonbeam" is now Governor "Broadbeam".

Well, there are a number of simple and primitive ways to determine direction. We shouldn't lose the point that being equipped and prepared isn't even enough sometimes. The point is that "we are".
